Youth Program Leader
Overview
Youth Program Leaders excite and mentor all AIR participants, and create a safe, welcoming, and empowering space for young people. This role leads the facilitation of engaging, affirming, and values-driven arts experiences that work toward AIR’s mission of inspiring youth to be bold, elevate their voices, and shape their futures.
This is a direct-service role working closely with youth ages 10–18 in small group settings. Programs typically include 5–15 participants and serve either middle-schoolers (ages 10–14) or high-schoolers (ages 14–18). During programs, Youth Program Leaders are supported by one or more Teaching Artists and the Program Coordinator and/or Program Assistant.
Youth Program Leaders are expected to collaborate and communicate effectively with AIR staff, contracted artists, interns, participants and their families, and volunteers. The Creative Director is the direct supervisor for this role.
This is an in-person position that requires travel to AIR program locations across the Seacoast NH region, though some planning work may be completed remotely.
Description
Youth Program Leaders are facilitators and mentors. Youth Program Leaders focus on holding the group, supporting youth well-being, and ensuring programs run smoothly and safely, while Teaching Artists lead artistic curriculum and instruction.
Successful Youth Program Leaders bring a calm, grounded presence to creative spaces and are comfortable adapting in real time to meet the needs of youth. They support participants through encouragement, co-regulation, and relationship-building, while maintaining clear boundaries and following AIR’s non-clinical crisis and safety protocols.
Youth Program Leaders do not need to be practicing artists, but must be comfortable working in creative environments and partnering closely with artists to support youth learning, expression, and engagement.
Hours and Schedule
Youth Program Leader is a contracted position with a schedule that follows the AIR program calendar. This role is expected to be present at all contracted program sessions.

Youth Program Leaders participate in a half-day paid training and onboarding process. On the first program day, leaders shadow AIR staff. On the second day, they co-lead. For remaining days, they serve as lead facilitator. A stipend of $150 is provided for the training half-day.
Because of the training involved, Youth Program Leaders must contract for a multi-session program before leading one-day workshops. Leaders may contract to facilitate one or multiple programs throughout the year. Youth Program Leaders may also contract as Teaching Artists, but may only serve in one role per contracted program.
