February Vacation was a blast! The young actors entered Garrison Players Arts Center each day excited to connect with each other, learn about theater, and most importantly- ACT! After having to move vacation programs online in 2020-21, it was so special to create memorable performances in person.
Each morning during February Vacation was led by UNH student and AIR Alum Erin Boodey. The ArtVenturers played improv games, developed characters, and read a play Erin wrote specifically for this program. The play was about a group of teens who were meeting for the first time at a sleepover at their new high school.
Each afternoon during February Vacation was taught by professional actress and longtime AIR teaching artist Katie Juster. The performances the AIR Artists created were all inspired by color! Some of Katie’s projects were:
- Light an object on the stage inspired by music with gel-covered flashlights
- Read, block, and perform two poems about color
- Choose a color to develop as a character by embodying it through lighting, movement, voice, and writing a monologue
We will be doing another theater program during April Vacation, but it won’t be just any kind of theater. In this experimental performance program we will be creating THE BEST SHOW EVER! If you know any girls or gender expansive youth ages 14-18, we would love for them to join us. Read more about the program here and follow us on Facebook and Instagram for updates.
